Multi-regional Trips
Our multi-regional are designed to help cover as many species, regions, and locations over longer periods. Typically spanning 3-4 weeks, we focus on multiple regions and their unique targets.
These itineraries are tailored for hardcore birders willing to take extended time out to cover as many species as possible in their first visit to a region, or seasoned birders looking for individual bird targets over multiple regions.
All our trips are also highly customizable, based on your preferred locations, routes, and bird targets.
The Northeast India Megatrip
The route begins with a short trip south of Guwahati to find key targets in the hills of Meghalaya, before returning & moving to Kaziranga National Park for its vast floodplains. From there, the route climbs into Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, on the eastern Himalayan slopes, where the elevation gradient moves through subtropical, temperate, and near-alpine forest. We then move to the wetlands of Eastern Assam and the Mishmi Hills: the easternmost extension of the Himalayas, where broadleaf and temperate forests hold species found nowhere else in India. This leg concludes at Namdapha National Park in the Patkai Hills, a range that spans lowland rainforest near the Myanmar border. From here, the itinerary heads into Nagaland’s Naga Hills, then to Ukhrul in the hill forests of northern Manipur, and finishes in the Lushai Hill tracts of Mizoram.
Western India - Gujarat & Rajasthan
The trip begins at Bhavnagar, with time spent in the grasslands around Velavadar Blackbuck National Park. From there the route heads north to Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary, then on to the Little and Greater Rann of Kutch. The itinerary continues north across the Rajasthan border to Mount Abu in Sirohi district, where rocky, scrub-covered hills hold a distinct set of species. From Mount Abu the trip crosses Rajasthan to Jaisalmer, on the edge of the Thar Desert and one of the last strongholds of the Great Indian Bustard. The route is built to cover a large share of Western India’s dry-country and desert-adapted birds, several of which occur nowhere else in the world.
The Western Ghats, Deccan, & Andamans
This tour is designed to help cover as many of South India’s unique birds as possible in a single trip. We begin at Kochi, exploring some of Thattekad & Periyar’s finest low-elevation Ghats rainforest before moving up to the shola ecosystems of the higher elevations of Munnar. We descend back into the plains to Coimbatore to explore its grasslands, and up the mountains again to Ooty for its regional endemics. After a brief stop at Masinagudi’s scrub forest, we move to Wayanad and drive down to Bangalore to explore the hills north of town, and Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary. After a flight out of Bangalore to the Andaman Islands, we begin with some exploration of the South Andamans for all its endemics found nowhere else in the world before wrapping up at Port Blair.
Srinagar & Ladakh
The Srinagar and Ladakh tour moves from the Kashmir Valley up into the high-altitude Transhimalaya, tracking a steep gradient in elevation and habitat. The trip opens around Srinagar, birding mixed pine forest on the surrounding hillsides along with wetlands and other transitional habitats in the valley. From there the route climbs to the terraced Barley fields of Kargil, with a short stop before continuing to Leh. After time built in for rest and acclimatization, birding around Leh covers high-altitude passes and marshland along the Indus. From Leh the route continues to Hanle, with birding en route through the intervening high-altitude terrain, followed by several days around Hanle’s wetlands. The trip then moves to Tsokar Lake before returning to Leh, where the tour ends.
